Liner notes to the EP, By Rail
“The 4 songs on this EP are part of an upcoming full length album written in the wake of my travels to New Orleans and Austin via train in the late summer of ’11.
I rode 2500 miles to record songs and to play shows with Dollar Bill Campbell. The times we had were long on laughter and flush with music.
In those days, Texas was embroiled in record setting heat, massive forest fires and a drought for the ages. I met a cattle farmer whose family lost so much you could see the pain on his face right through his proud resolve. I wrote a song about it called If You’re A Live One and it’ll be on the album.
With wide eyes and anxious anticipation, I took in the great city of New Orleans on the arm of a hospitable and lovely local lady. We listened to amazing live music, went to her favorite spots, and a memorable weekend in the Crescent City was had. She’s all over these songs.
On the rails, I met good people from around the world, played music in the observation car, and saw a different America unfold before my eyes. The experience brought the songs out of me. This EP is the beginning of that story. Thanks for listening.”
